Round three: Rahil Gangjee leads by two shots

<p>In round three of the INR 1 crore TATA Steel PGTI Players Championship at Tollygunge Club here on Thursday, Rahil Gangjee, of Bengaluru, (65-65-64) recovered the day’s joint lowest total of six-under 64 to surge into a two-shot lead at 16-under 194.</p>

<p>At the completion of moving day, or what is commonly known as round three in golf, Manu Gandas (65-67-64), the 2022 PGTI Ranking winner, overnight leader Arjun Prasad (62-65-69), and Saptak Talwar (66-65-65) were tied for second at 14-under 196.</p>
<p>Rahil improved one position from his joint second place overnight with his second consecutive round without a bogey. On the second and eighth holes, which are both par-3s, he produced two spectacular tee shots that set him short birdie putts.</p>
<p>The three-time international champion Rahil also made a birdie on the eighth hole with a two-putt from 45 feet out.</p>
<p>In pursuit of his sixth career championship and first victory in six years, the 45-year-old, who spent a lot of his childhood golfing at the Tollygunge Club, made three more birdies and pulled ahead of the field with some solid wedge play on the back nine.</p>
<p>I grew up here, so I know this golf course like the back of my hand. Here, I’ve made hundreds of photos. I am aware of where to avoid missing it and where to miss it. He remarked</p>
<p>In addition, Manu Gandas shot 64 to go up seven positions into a shared second place.</p>
<p>After leading for the first two days, Arjun Prasad lost ground on the leaderboard after mixing four bogeys and five birdies in his 69-hole total.</p>
<p>With his 65, which included a run of four straight birdies, Saptak Talwar moved up three spots to share second position with Manu and Arjun.</p>
<p>Sachin Baisoya (71), the reigning champion, finished tied for 15th place at nine under 201.</p>
