<p>Since India’s defeat to Australia in the 2023 ODI World Cup final, Shami has not played. The 33-year-old hitter was included in the Indian Test team for the match against South Africa, but his availability depended on how fit he was. The fast bowler was subsequently ruled out of the two Tests by the BCCI in a press statement, which also said that Shami had not been cleared by the medical team.</p>
<p>“Shami was instructed to start light running after three weeks and take it from there when he visited London in the last week of January for special ankle injections.</p>

<p>Shami, who took 24 wickets at the World Cup and was a major contributor to India’s incredible victory, played with discomfort because he struggled with his landing, but he didn’t let it stop him from performing.</p>
